Captain Ed has been around water his entire life, building his first boat with his grandfather when he was 10 years old, and has been on the water ever since. As an adult, he joined the NYC Fire Department. While working for the fire department he served in the roles of firefighter, Fire Marshal, and Instructor at the NYC Fire Academy. It was during this time that he pursued his love for the water by taking the next step: earning his captain’s license. Since retiring from the FDNY, Captain Ed was able to pursue his passion full-time: working and being on the water. Wanting to get back to teaching, he obtained his U.S.C.G. Instructor approval and New York State Safe Boating Instructor approval, splitting his time between being in classrooms and on the water. As a captain, he has experience on waters of the northeast US, Atlantic Ocean, and Caribbean Islands. Currently he holds a 100-ton Near Coastal License with Commercial Assistance Towing. He lives with his wife, two boys, and dog on Long Island. He continues to work on boats on the waters around NYC and Long Island. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the surrounding bays and harbors of the Long Island Sound with his family on the family’s express cruiser.
